Rotary Club of Sydney was formed in 1920. Today the Sydney Clubs are giving back to our community. We meet every Tuesday at 12:15PM at the Holiday Inn on the Esplanade in Sydney, NSW

About

The Object of Rotary is to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and, in particular, to encourage and foster.

FIRST
The development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service;
SECOND
High ethical standards in business and professions; the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations; and the dignifying of each Rotarian’s occupation as an opportunity to serve society;
THIRD
The application of the ideal of service in each Rotarian’s personal, business, and community life;
FOURTH
The advancement of international understanding, goodwill, and peace through a world fellowship of business and professional persons united in the ideal of service.



For sustainability

  • We have a member sustainability representative whose role is to give a brief report, at least monthly, about ours or other Rotary groups sustainability activities.
  • At least one member of our club/group is a member of the Environmental Sustainability Rotary Action Group and shares their communications. Visit ESRAG
  • We have a sustainability committee/group that regularly considers activities for the club.

Our projects

Climate Action Group

Started: 2020 Status: Ongoing
We hold our monthly meetings on the 2nd Monday of each month at 5:30 pm in 2021. We encourage everyone who is interested in helping us take a leadership role in promoting action on Climate Change to join us. Some of our objectives will be to: Inform ourselves on all aspects of climate science Plan, implement and evaluate service projects, build awareness and inspire action. Projects will promote environmental sustainability, awareness of climate change and actions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and to mitigate global warming. At Sydney Rotary’s luncheon on Tuesday 15 June, Dr. Kerry Chant PSM will be presented with the Club’s prestigious Vocational Service Award for 2021. Dr. Chant has been the public face of NSW Health, regularly briefing the media with the latest information on the pandemic. Earlier this year, she was named the NSW Public Servant of the Year as well as NSW Woman of the Year. She has been in the role since 2008, making her NSW’s longest-serving chief health officer. Dr. Anne Noonan interviewed by Lindsay Mell Sydney Rotary Club’s lunchtime Zoom meeting on Tuesday 8th June will feature activist Dr Anne Noonan being interviewed by journalist, Lindsay Mell. Anne, who will discuss Activism in Action, is a psychiatrist and psychoanalyst having trained in Australia and Italy. She works in Sydney and in remote communities in Central Australia and has been involved in anti-war movements for many years.

The next meeting of Sydney Rotary’s Climate Action Group will be held over Zoom on Monday 7 June at 5:30 pm. The guest presenter will be Rebecca Gorman, an award-winning social affairs journalist of more than twenty years of experience who is now running a beef cattle farm using Holistic Management regenerative agriculture methodologies. In the AEGN field, she and her husband John Sevior support a range of initiatives that support climate-smart agriculture, farmer engagement, and policy change
