For sustainability

No disposable water bottles. We use filtered rain water. Guests get glass bottles and glasses. No plastic cups.
No plastic or disposable table ware and cutlery.
No paper napkins, cotton cloths
Washing, cleaning with organic cleaners: baking soda, vinegar and lemon juice
Restaurant: almost no imported products (to reduce carbon footprint), i.e. no cans, no imported vegetables, meat or fruits. We do buy basic products like rice, flour, etc. that are imported to Fiji. We buy vegetables from our neighbours, at the local market, and plant some on our own (still work in progress …)
Jams and chutneys are all homemade from seasonal fruit
We buy rather bulk in large bags or containers (e.g. breakfast biscuits for the staff) than small packets wrapped in foil
We bring our own bags for shopping or use cartons
We train our staff on separating waste: organics go to the pigs, leftover food to the dogs, the rest is either burned on site or brought to the rubbish dump in Taveuni (plastic)
We do use refillable drinking bottles made of plastic on the boat - can’t do with glass there.
We educate the yachties on waste disposal, e.g. organics or bottles should not be dumped in the ocean (a common misconception …). We offer to take their organic rubbish to the pigs and they can dispose their waste bags which we then take across to the rubbish dump in Taveuni
