The school has already purchased several laptops with the fuel savings, but I just received a message from Fia Fia, the head teacher, to say they just now installed 6 smart TVs and purchased a new projector with the continued savings.

Natusara Primary, on Ono Island south of the mainland, is quite unique in a number of ways with regard its location. Firstly, to get into the school you need a small boat to cross the mudflats that are exposed half the time, so should you arrive on the low tide you may need to wait hours to get in. Once across the mud flat the school is 300m up a mangrove creek (see the feed for an image). Secondly, many years ago when the school was built, the three villages that it would service did not agree on which village it would be built, so the school was build not in either of the villages, rather roughly in the middle, so all the children board in the hostels and there are no other immediate buildings or services other than the school.
Agreement with the head of school. Care of the systems and commitments from the community are important - you can see the agreement in the Doc and Links panel.
A cool video just sent from Simpliphi - made when they were packing the batteries and cabinets in California. The good news - we are expecting the ship to dock in Suva in 3 days and soon after these batteries will be storing heaps of power and helping give kids in remote schools a modern education - watch this space. As usual a huge thank you to the team at Simpliphi - a big part of Its Time's support family :-)
People often ask, what can I take if I visit a remote island school? Best are good quality library books. Well a group of super cool supporters are visiting in June and have taken that advice big time. Here are sets sustainability books for 5 primary schools (2 high schools as well still in boxes). Plus they have 7 high quality LED projectors on the way - incredibly value to the school and symbolic of the modern education that the solar is bringing. A huge vinaka to you.
Specifications panels (describing solar systems) for schools are now available - click 'Visit individual schools pages' button. (Please note this platform development is a major undertaking and features are being added gradually. Also, schools prior to March 2023 will be added after the next couple of panels development is complete.)
Schoolzine, a leading website developer focused on schools, is kindly donating a website (coaching and development) and hosting for schools receiving Its Time solar projects. A big thank you in advance from the schools. Naiviivi Primary's website will be published soon. https://www.schoolzine.com
Signed 'in good faith' agreement accepted by school committee and head teacher, plus holding energy efficiency posters that goo in all rooms. See copy in Docs and Links (click link top the school)
The head teacher said that just maintenance cost between fjd200 and 400 per month (USD100 to 200). That alone means 3 new laptops per year to advance these kids educa
Kids and teachers will enjoy the new 24 hour power coming soon and the FJD6000+ per year savings in fuel and generator maintenance cost that will now go toward computers and other education resources.
Indeed timely that we install new wiring to the teachers' home. There is not much point in putting in a quality solar power plant without ensuring it can be safely delivered to the users. This wiring installed a veryyyyy long time ago.
Previous batteries that were supplying a class room - there are two sets of these. They are not functional and will be removed from the island for recycling.
This is a video taken at another school, but the situation is the same at Naiviivi and often other school we encounter. Albeit, the small school solar at Naiviivi (when it was working) was designed to supply 240V lights and a powerpoint. The examples in the video are the same as in the Naviivi teachers' homes where the batteries have failed or are failing.

Another pile of roof and ground mountings were packed in a container and will be soon hold up more solar panels helping kids get a modern education. Clenergy have been doing this for near 13 years - thank you soooo much for the support.
It may not look so glamorous, but Clenergy mounts, Jinko solar panels and a pallet of Victron inverter (thanks DPA Solar for the quick turn around on the inverters) are on their way to their new home in Fiji giving a whole bunch of kids the opportunity of a modern education and saving some CO2 emissions as well. And as usual thanks to the Cosco team for your professionalism and patience.

A big thank you to Thomas and the team at Jinko for supporting us with 75 kilowatts of solar panels. We look forward to loading them into a container very soon and putting them to work in Fiji. https://jinkosolar.com.au/
